about

There's a story to this:
We were in Belize, stranded on Caye Caulker when we hitched a ride to a little place in the mangroves on the coast called Bomba. In this place was a man named Babo. He lived there with his wives and children and made drums. We spent time there, drumming and playing and when we were done, Babo gave Sunshine this chant. It means that we are ungrateful for our mothers, because we do not realize we have mothers at all. It is not a language, it is a patois. Babo asked Sunshine to bring this message home, and to share it with the world, and so he did.

The percussion is an ensemble of Sunshine, Moonbeam, Primo Navarro, and his two apprentices, strewn down the hall of the Dubtribe house. Recorded live in one take. Primo is a maestro, and this sounds so much better than the SP-1200 we were using before.
